About Simon Gear
Simon grew up the son of a geography teacher and so spent his early years emmersed in a constant stream of environmental information. After matriculating from St Stithians College he studied Geography and English at Wits, completing an honours in climatology in 1998. After a year spent teaching, which he found far too hard, he settled into a life as a weather presenter on the SABC.
In recent years he has also taken on the role of environmental correspondent for Primedia Broadcasting and runs his own environmental consultancy, SDG Consulting. He works from home where he has become adept at typing with his daughter on his lap.
Simon Gear is one of South Africa’s leading climatologists and is a national authority on global warming and green issues. He has become a household name in SA as the weatherman on SABC 3. He also presents the weather and gives green advice on Talk Radio 702. His book Going Green: 365 Ways to Change Our World features practical and easy to implement ideas and offers one tip for every day of the year.
